If there’s no advertising or giveaways associated with a free download, get suspicious. There’s a good chance the download could be some sort of Trojan horse designed to stick something nasty into your computer. For example, a virus designed to severely cause problems with your computer. More likely, it’s a worm designed to steal your money or your personal information for identity theft. If you play poker online you probably transfer money online. That means your banking information is online and on your computer. The free download won’t look so free when your money is transferred into some crook’s online account.

The best way to avoid this kind of rip off is to simply not download any sort of free software which does not have any form of strings attached. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

If you want to play poker games, buy a poker game online or go to a legitimate poker room. Most of them have free games that you can play in. Don’t download free poker games you see floating around on the web.

Another warning that everybody who goes online should know, is to never download free software that arrives via unsolicited e-mails or instant messages.  This is a classic internet scam that’s designed to infect your computer with a worm or a virus.

Don’t trust any e-mail or message with a free download. Even one that looks like it comes from your favorite poker room. If you get a message that prompts you to download software, delete it. Go to the poker room’s site, the free giveaway should be available there directly from the source.
